The First District recently held the 2025 Appellate Seminar and Continuing Legal Education Event at the University of Cincinnati College of Law. In collaboration with the University of Cincinnati College of Law, the 2025 Appellate Seminar was attended by 80 local attorneys, magistrates, and judges. This year’s event included four sessions on a range of different topics. First District Staff Attorney Matthew Doktor opened the event with a case law update which provided attendees with an overview of the most significant decisions released by the First District in 2025. Several staff members from the University of Cincinnati College of Law Library and Associate Dean, Mike Whiteman, also held a practical session detailing how to use artificial intelligence in the practice of law. Later, First District Judge Marilyn Zayas presented a deep dive on standards of review with help from First District Staff Attorneys Heather Heineman and Stacy Majba. To conclude the event, attendees participated in a question-and-answer panel session with First District Judges Marilyn Zayas, Ginger Bock, Terry Nestor, and Richard Moore.

The First District looks forward to putting together its next seminar! Be sure to look for announcements about our next event!
