On April 14, 2026, the First District Court of Appeals convened off-site oral arguments at the University of Cincinnati Donald P. Klekamp College of Law. The proceedings were attended by variety of audience members, including prospective law students, current law students, Pre-Law Club members, and undergraduate Political Science majors. Participants observed oral arguments in three cases before a panel consisting of Presiding Judge Jennifer Kinsley, Judge Marilyn Zayas, and Judge Richard Moore.
After the hearings, the judges conducted a question-and-answer session with the students. The University of Cincinnati College of Law later hosted a luncheon for the judges, their staff attorneys, and students interested in judicial careers. This event offered participants meaningful insights and opportunities for professional growth.
Off-site oral arguments are an integral component of the First District’s ongoing Courtroom in the Community initiative. This program is designed to promote transparency and broaden public access to the Court by offering students and community members the valuable opportunity to observe judicial proceedings firsthand. In preparation for these off-site oral arguments, students typically study the case briefs and summaries in coordination with their instructors.
In continuing those efforts, interested parties can contact the Court at COA@firstdistrictcoa.org to organize an educational visit from the First District Court of Appeals.
