First District Welcomes Summer Intern Class of 2026

The First District Court of Appeals Welcomes the

Summer Intern Class of 2026

The First District Court of Appeal is pleased to welcome and introduce the summer intern class of 2026. This year’s cohort includes seven students, reflecting a diversity in experiences and educational backgrounds: four law students, two undergraduates, and one high school intern.

The First District’s internship program utilizes a combination of observational and experiential learning elements, giving the interns an in-depth look at the Ohio legal system to enhance their knowledge and proficiency within it. Under the direction of Judge Ginger Bock and Judge Jennifer Kinsley, interns gain hands-on experience through assignments in collaboration with judges, staff attorneys, court administrators, and their fellow interns. The interns will spend their time observing both appellate and trial court proceedings, conducting legal research and writing, aiding with case-specific tasks, and contributing to the court’s community outreach and educational initiatives.

“While we provide opportunities for students to learn about the legal system, gain practical experience, and network with judges, attorneys, and students, our judges and court staff find working with interns equally rewarding.” said Judge Bock.

When asked about this year’s cohort, Judge Kinsley expressed that the court is “so thrilled to have an energetic and talented class of interns with us this summer.” Judge Bock added, “Their curiosity, energy, and enthusiasm create an exciting, hopeful atmosphere in the court.”

The First District Court of Appeals is committed to providing well-rounded educational opportunities for the next generation of lawyers and public servants. As Judge Kinsley explained, “The judges of the First District believe that the court belongs to the community.  Our internship program is one way we tangibly demonstrate that belief—by opening the court and its work to students at various levels of learning and from different walks of life.  By inviting students in, we improve community participation in the work that we do, and in the long run that means we are serving people better.”

The First District Court of Appeals is excited to welcome and host this year’s talented group of students.

She also likes playing soccer, which contributed to her value of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance.

Undergraduate Students

Sam served on the Forest Hills Foundation of Education Student Grant Committee and is currently an intern for a state representative reelection campaign. Sam is interested in learning about the different legal philosophies and the rationale behind court decisions. Sam sought an internship with the First District Court of Appeals because he wanted to “gain an in-depth understanding of the appellate legal process, how courts prevent unjust outcomes within the boundaries of the law, and learn how the judiciary limits government power.” In his free time, Sam enjoys hanging out with friends, cooking, and meeting new people.
