On September 17, 2025, First District Judge Candace Crouse heard oral arguments at the Supreme Court of Ohio. Judge Crouse heard Case No. 24024-0236, In Re Commission’s Investigation into RPA Energy Inc., in place of Justice Joseph T. Deters who recused.
In an article published by Court News Ohio regarding her assignment to sit on the Supreme Court of Ohio, Judge Crouse discussed her career journey from performing arts to law, and from Morgantown, West Virgina to Cincinnati, Ohio. Judge Crouse, who had an interest in the arts, initially majored in theater during her first year at West Virgina University before switching to International Studies and German. From there, Judge Crouse attended and graduated from the Ohio State University Mortiz College of Law and started to build a legal career in Ohio. After working in small firms focused on domestic relations law, immigration law, and criminal defense, Judge Crouse was elected to the First District Court of Appeals.
Now on her second term at the First District, Judge Crouse is devoted to shaping the future of the legal community while serving the people of Ohio. “I always remember that my job is as a public servant. My goal is to make the court better than when I joined it,” she noted. “I continuously ask what we can do to make our court more efficient, convenient for litigants, and transparent.”
