Judges Volunteer at Area Non-Profit Groups

In an effort to support the community in which they live and serve, the First District judges are volunteering once a month at non-profit organizations.

The volunteer initiative began in September 2021, as an outgrowth of the “Give Back Fridays” movement. On the second Friday of each month, the judges perform community service at a pre-selected location.

So far this year, events have been held at New Life Furniture Bank, St. Vincent de Paul, and the Freestore Foodbank.

Located in Blue Ash, New Life Furniture Bank collects gently used furniture and household items to provide to people in need throughout Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.  The group delivers and sets up an entire household of furnishings to families overcoming homelessness, domestic abuse, or extreme poverty.

With seven locations around Greater Cincinnati, the local chapter of St. Vincent de Paul accepts donations to provide food, rent and utility payment assistance, clothing and household items, and medical exams to low-income or isolated people.

The Freestore Foodbank is one of Ohio’s largest food banks, distributing 37.7 million meals annually through a network of 540 community partner agencies serving 20 counties in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana. This includes food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, community centers, program sites, senior centers, and daycare facilities.
